This is the rare maple-fir tree that results when a Douglasfir is pollinated by the Big leaf maple. They always grow with the fir portion of the tree on the south side, but scientists have yet to ascertain why. |

This one was hard to get pictures of because of the lighting, the distance, and the mediocre camera. (Not the fault of the photographer, of course.) It is growing about fifteen feet up an alder tree. |
